The rise of misinformation, disinformation, and malinformation in the media impacts everyone, and many people use only social media to access news sources. With Meta's new policy<https://www.socialmediatoday.com/news/everything-to-know-about-meta-political-content-update/737123/#:~:text=Meta's%20updating%20its%20rules%20around,of%20now%20acceptable%20comments%20include:> regarding fact checking information, the ability to recognize and access credible information is critical. Artificial intelligence also creates confusion, and its identification is essential for digital citizenship. To address these needs in communities across the state, instruction in information literacy is needed.

In this 1.5-hour interactive session, author and librarian, Jennifer LaGarde, tackles one of the most important topics of the 21st century: evaluating information to determine what has been designed to inform versus what has been designed to influence, fool, or even harm us. With an emphasis on the overlap between information literacy and social emotional learning, participants will walk away from this session with practical tips for supporting library patrons and students in identifying triggers in the media, understanding motives of those who post, and deciding how to react-or not. The road to information literacy is long and difficult, and we may need a guide along the way. Join Jennifer for this session to find a map and compass.
