A Note from the
Marketing & Engagement Coordinator
As our teacher and school librarian members are preparing for the start of a new school year, other members are celebrating the completion of another successful summer reading program! 2026 offered libraries plenty of themes to choose from, including “Unearth a Story” from CSLP and “Plant a Seed, Read” from iREAD.
Some libraries even elected to embrace this moment in our nation’s history by having America 250 guide their summer reading program.
No matter what theme your library used, we want to hear all about what summer reading looked like at your library. Unique children’s craft? Fun program to engage teens? Creative way to get adults participating? Share your summer reading success stories for a chance to be mentioned in our newsletter.
Email me at jill.grunenwald at neo-rls.org<mailto:jill.grunenwald at neo-rls.org> with your stories, programs, or photos so we can highlight the great work happening across our region.
Have a great week!
Jill

Early Literacy 101 Workshop
In-person workshop at the Lee Road Branch of Heights Libraries, 2345 Lee Rd, Cleveland Heights.
Registration is required. Register here<https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=561683425&mm=162407378917>.
Presented by Ohio Ready to Read<https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=561684647&mm=162407378917>, Early Literacy 101 is a full-day workshop open to all Ohio public library workers and offered at no cost to attendees. . EL101 is for new and seasoned library workers in children’s services and outreach. It’s great for anyone who plans and presents storytimes, and for anyone who wants to learn how to help children get ready to read. Participants will learn how brain development impacts how young children learn, and will explore effective, research-based early literacy resources and activities.
The workshop covers the Six Early Literacy Skills presented in the PLA/ALSC Every Child Ready to Read® 1st edition, and the Five Early Literacy Practices presented in the 2nd edition, along with other early literacy concepts and storytime tips. It is also an excellent complement to the Reimagining School Readiness<https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=561685869&mm=162407378917> training, and Ohio Ready to Read recommends library workers take advantage of both.

Invite Your Members of Congress to See E-Rate in Action
With Congress in recess through early September, now is an ideal time to invite your members of Congress to visit your library and see first-hand how E-Rate supports affordable, reliable internet access for your community.
The American Library Association's Show Up for E-Rate<https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=561689535&mm=162407378917> resource offers practical tips for planning a visit, sharing local impact stories, and making the case for why E-Rate matters. Congressional recess is one of the best opportunities to build relationships with lawmakers and demonstrate the essential role libraries play in connecting people to education, employment, health information, government services and more.
If you do this, OPLIN would like to assist. Let us know how we can help you: provide information, join the visit, or offer a tour of OPLIN's facilities in Columbus.

Warren-Trumbull County Public Library Breaks Ground On New Branch
An official groundbreaking for the Howland library was held at the library on East Market Street near the corner where a new 700-square-foot children’s programming area will be built.
The $2.2 million library project will include expanding the children’s area, creating a dedicated teen area, adding private study space, expanding collaborative spaces, adding another public restroom and reconfiguring the staff’s workspace.
