A Note from the

Marketing & Engagement Coordinator

Happy Pride Month! Observed every June in honor of the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York City, Pride Month is an opportunity for us all to celebrate and commemorate the contributions of the LGBTQIA+ community. From book displays, in-person events, book discussions and more, libraries have always been fierce advocates.

But allyship and advocacy exist outside the month of June as well! September brings us Bisexual Awareness Week, while October is LGBT History Month and is also the time we celebrate National Coming Out Day. As such, we wanted to take this time to highlight some fall webinars we have recently added to our calendar:

We know each community is unique and not every librarian and library is able to celebrate Pride out loud, but we hope you’ll register for these events so we can all continue to support every reader under the rainbow.

State Library of Ohio Awards Over 2.1 Million Dollars in LSTA Funds

The State Library of Ohio Board recently awarded a combined total of $2,137,403 in federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) Grants for the Libraries Connect Ohio core set of databases known as Ohio Web Library, eighteen public libraries to hire Guiding Ohio Online technology trainers, and Ohio Library for the Blind and Print Disabled to supplement state funding.

The Ohio LSTA Grant Program is funded through the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), an independent federal agency, through its Grants to States program. Funding for IMLS is included in the federal Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies appropriations bill. The U.S. House Appropriations Subcommittee is expected to mark up this legislation later this week, with consideration by the full House Appropriations Committee scheduled for next week.
