A Note from the

Executive Director

As June comes to a close, many library staff are preparing to head to Chicago for the American Library Association's Annual Conference. This year's conference is especially meaningful as ALA celebrates its 150th anniversary! Safe travels and best wishes to all who will be attending. I hope you return with new ideas, valuable connections, and renewed inspiration for the important work you do every day.

Many libraries across our region also continue to participate in America 250 celebrations, with programs ranging from parades and community events to crafts, historical displays, and, of course, cake! Best wishes for successful programs, strong attendance, and meaningful community engagement as you help commemorate this historic milestone.

With a busy week ahead for many, we will be taking a brief hiatus from the newsletter next week and look forward to reconnecting with you when it returns the following week. NEO-RLS will also be closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of the Independence Day holiday.

Have a safe and enjoyable holiday week!

National Veterans Memorial and Museum program opportunities and Story Collection

The National Veterans Memorial and Museum (NVMM) in Columbus offers several opportunities for libraries and other organizations to engage their communities. All these things can be done for both youth and adult audiences. The NVMM can generally travel within a 30-mile radius to present in-person programs, though exceptions can be made for specific programs and events. Virtual programs and the Story Collection are available to libraries anywhere.

In-person or virtual group tours and field trips: Developed for school field trips, these can also be adapted as library programs. Details are here<https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=547326147&mm=159042934301> and questions may be directed to education at nationalvmm.org<mailto:education at nationalvmm.org>.

"Hybrid field trips": For those who cannot visit the museum, but still want a hands-on, in-person experience. The NVMM provides a PowerPoint presentation of its permanent exhibition space, along with items from its Education Collection to touch and try on. Contact the email address above for details.

Various veteran/military focused presentations: Like the hybrid tours but tailored to a specific theme or subject matter. The NVMM can customize presentations and workshops for people based around a variety of topics, given enough time to create them. Contact the email address above for details.

NVMM Story Collection: A great way for those with a current or former military service member's story to record and share it to the NVMM digital collection. All those touched by military service, including active service members, Veterans, spouses, children, friends, and community members are invited to participate. Adding these conversations becomes part of the NVMM and broadens the stories we share. It is completely free to do! Cleveland Public Library To Celebrate Cleveland's Baseball History

One Cleveland is a living, unfolding celebration that will grow throughout the year, bringing forward new stories, new voices, and new reasons to be inspired by the city we share. Next week, Cleveland Public Library, as part of One Cleveland, is celebrating Cleveland Baseball History with events at Hough Campus including an evening celebrating Cleveland baseball player Larry Doby (the second black player to break baseball's color barrier ad the first black player in the American League).

In addition, Felton Thomas Jr., Executive Director of the Cleveland Public Library, is participating at the July 5 Cleveland Guardians game as the person delivering the game ball to the mound!
