Power Up: A Leadership Conference for Youth Services Managers and Staff

In-person Conference
March 22-23, 2027

Register today: go.wisc.edu/s47ps5<https://go.wisc.edu/s47ps5>

Power Up is back in person in 2027! Join fellow youth services, librarians and managers for two days of learning, idea sharing, and connection. Explore practical approaches for building strong teams, navigating change, and creating accessible services while connecting with peers who share your passion for serving children, teens, and families.

Opening Keynote – Dr. Chris Castro
An expert in organizational dynamics, leadership, and professional development, Dr. Christian Castro has twenty years of experience across higher education, state government, and the nonprofit sector. He has worked as a faculty member, administrator, and independent consultant, partnering with leaders, teams, and whole institutions to build the conditions in which people can work well together, and guiding them toward more effective, evidence-based practices when established ways of working no longer suffice.

Closing Keynote – Betsy Bird
Betsy Bird is an author, librarian, reviewer of children’s literature, public speaker, and podcaster (not necessarily in that order). She is the author of numerous picture books for children, including the upcoming Terrible Terrible Birds (Feb 2027) with Matthew Cordell and POP! Goes the Fairy Tale (June 2027) with Andrea Tsurumi. She has written books for kids ages 9–12 (most recently Long Road to the Circus with David Small), books for adults about children’s books (most recently Racial Literacy in Libraries), and more. Betsy currently resides in Evanston, Illinois with her two kids, husband, and cats Izzy and Hilo (named after the graphic novel series by Judd Winick).
