A Note From the
Executive Director
About a year ago, we rolled out message boards for our Active Learning Communities. Since then, some have become great spaces for conversation, collaboration, and resource sharing, while several are still waiting for their first posts. I’d love to see more library staff take advantage of this resource, so I wanted to highlight a few message boards worth checking out!
Active Learning Community Message Boards:
* Circulation
* Middle Management
* Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility
* Construction and Facilities
There are many more to explore! And remember, you do not have to participate in the Active Learning Community Zoom meeting to opt in to the message board.
I also encourage everyone to opt in to the Cross-Collaboration message board. This is a general space for all library staff to explore possible collaboration opportunities and share resources. Looking for a particular article or access to a database? Need a subject expert to present on a topic or share their knowledge? This is a great place to start your search.
If you are interested in opting into any of the message boards, you can find instructions here<https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=598139351&mm=172273925451>. Feel free to reach out to me at ragan.snead at neo-rls.org<mailto:ragan.snead at neo-rls.org> if you have any questions.
Thank you!

Janet Ingraham Dwyer to Retire After 17 Years of State Library of Ohio Service
It is with both joy and a touch of sadness that we announce the upcoming retirement of Youth Services Library Consultant Janet Ingraham Dwyer<mailto:jdwyer at library.ohio.gov> from the State Library of Ohio on November 30, 2026. For more than 35 years, Janet has exemplified what it means to possess a giving spirit and has put that spirit of service into practice throughout various roles in libraries. In particular, Janet spent a significant portion of her career at Worthington Libraries, having started there as a reference librarian in 1991. While there, Janet transitioned to the position of Outreach Services/Volunteer Coordinator in 2005.
Janet joined the State Library team in October of 2009, and she hit the ground running in her efforts to support, elevate, and promote the work of youth services-focused library staff from around the state. For the past 17 years, Janet has had a hand in numerous statewide and national programs and initiatives including Ohio Ready to Read [partnership between the Ohio Library Council (OLC) and the State Library]; Collaborative Summer Library Program; U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Summer Food Service Program; coordination of Choose to Read Ohio, as well as the Floyd’s Pick Book Award; Building Community-Based Summers; Take 5: An Ohio Youth Services Day of Dialogue; and so many more!

Bring a Service in Action Nook to Your Library!
The National Veterans Memorial and Museum (NVMM) in Columbus is excited to invite public libraries across the state to express interest in hosting a Service in Action Nook<https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=598160125&mm=172273925451>, an interactive space that connects Veterans' stories with meaningful opportunities for children, families, and community members to serve others.
Thanks to funding from an Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) grant, NVMM will expand the initiative to five Ohio libraries in 2027 and five additional libraries in 2028.
The initiative has already reached thousands of participants through partnerships with Columbus Metropolitan Library and other community organizations. Learn more and view a slideshow of Service in Action Nooks on the NVMM website<https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=598161347&mm=172273925451>.
Interested in bringing a Nook to your community?
NVMM is currently identifying library partners for openings in 2027 and 2028. Libraries are invited to complete a brief Interest Form to share information about their community, available space, and potential opportunities for collaboration.
Express Your Interest: Service in Action – Library Interest Form<https://mms.neo-rls.org/ct.php?lid=598160125&mm=172273925451>
Submitting the form does not commit your library to hosting a Nook. NVMM will review responses and follow up with interested libraries to discuss potential partnerships, timelines, and next steps.

Cleveland Public Library Partners with Local Urban Farm on New Technology
Cleveland Public Library and Rid-All Green Partnership have joined together to introduce students to a new device that can farm using AI and robotic technology. The FarmBot can plant, water, cut, livestream video and teach students about agriculture. This innovative project brings STEM learning to life, helping students explore the connections between engineering, agriculture, and technology while discovering where food comes from.
