Developing a researcher or scholarly identity is a culmination of a professional’s research output, expertise, interests, reputation, and represents a summary of how one is viewed in the scholarly community. Many librarians are encouraged or required to engage with research to increase their knowledge of reference topics, develop library services, share their work with others, and stay on professional trends. However, research shows that many librarians don’t feel adequately prepared for this role upon entering the profession and are expected to develop these skills on their own.

Join Paul C. Campbell and Sarah Nagle, co-editors of “Librarians as Researchers: Developing our Scholarly Identities,” for an interactive webinar discussing librarian researcher identities. Drawing on themes from their book, this webinar is intended to start a conversation.

Campbell and Nagle will begin the session by sharing the origins and key takeaways from their book. They will then facilitate an open discussion with attendees about the real-life challenges and opportunities of engaging in research as part of their professional practice. Attendees will be invited to share some of their specific experiences and share insights on common challenges regarding research. They will conclude the webinar with a question-and-answer session, allowing participants to ask questions of the larger group about scholarship and developing a researcher identity.
