Assuming you have both domains and both servers, you can use this as a
good time to get patrons to bookmark the new page etc. Simply change the
index.htm thus:
<html>
<head>
<title>
Our site has moved!
</title>
<META HTTP-EQUIV=3D"Refresh" CONTENT=3D"10;
URL=3Dhttp://www.findlaylibrary.org/">
<style>
<!--
a{text-decoration:none}
//-->
</style>
</head>
<body background=3D"index3.gif">
<table align=3D"center" valign=3D"middle" border=3D0 width=3D800>
<tr>
<td align=3D"center">
<a href=3D"http://www.findlaylibrary.org/"><img src=3D"index3.gif"
alt=3D"Please click here=20
for our new location." border=3D0></a><font color=3D"white">
<CENTER><b>Findlay-Hancock County Public Library
website has moved.<br>You will be redirected in 10 seconds.<br>Please
update your=20
bookmarks accordingly.<br>Our new address is as
follows:<br></b></font><h1><A=20
HREF=3D"http://www.findlaylibrary.org/"
>http://www.findlaylibrary.org</A></H1></center>
</td>
</tr>
</table>
</body>
</html>

Don is referring to the Meta Refresh tag that would be put into the
header
of your web page on the .US server (if it is a different one) that would
redirect it to a different page. You could theoretically just add this
refresh tag into your page on the .org server also and users hitting the
page would refresh to the new domain.

Subject: RE: [OPLINTECH] Domain Forwarding
OPLIN is unable to offer Domain Forwarding on a Windows 2000 Web Server.
This must be done on the server itself. Domain forwarding is defined
when a URL is entered in a browser and the web server itself, forwards
the user to the correct URL automatically. I am sure you have seen the
links that say "Click here if you are not automatically redirected in 30
seconds". OPLIN cannot provide this service.
However, OPLIN can redirect the old domain to the new domain via the
OPLIN DNS servers. DNS redirection means a user enters the URL for
lookup. When the domain is being resolved on the DNS server, it refers
to a c-name (that must be manually entered at the request of the
library) that will then translate the domain to another URL. This URL
then in turn will then be sent for lookup. There is no message
indicating this is happening, it done "behind the scenes". While this
has the same outcome, it is not the same service.=20
It should also be note while this can be done it should not be the
preferred solution, since the original problem is not resolved. If it is
handled behind the scenes, the user is still unaware the domain has
changed.=20

Subject: [OPLINTECH] Domain Forwarding
Does anyone out there know how to do Domain Forwarding on
a Windows 2000 Web Server? We have our old URL: www.findlay.lib.oh.us
and we now have a new one: www.findlaylibrary.org. When someone
types in the old address, we want it to automatically go to the new
address. Any help or advice appreciated!
