ICMP Echo Requests (Ping) Blocked August 28, 2003:
 
In an ongoing effort to maintain network performance and security, ITSD
Network Services has determined that it is necessary to block ICMP Echo
requests (Ping) from our major perimeter points (Internet, K-12, OPLIN).
We are seeing a growing number of customers whose access links are being
inundated with virus-related traffic, some over 50% of their total
utilization.  This will not affect ICMP Echo requests (Ping) that
originate from within the State of Ohio's network.  This block will be
implemented without causing a disruption of service.
