WORKSHOP #1: STRATEGIES FOR CONFLICT RESOLUTION
When/Where: Friday, April 16, 2004 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Ohio Valley
Area Libraries (OVAL), 252 W. 13th Street, Wellston, Ohio
Presented by: Dr. Michael R. McCoy, Executive Director, Greater Cincinnati
Library Consortium
Costs: This workshop is free of charge to everyone!
---How do you deal with conflict in your library? Like any social
institution, a library is often the scene for interpersonal conflict.
Whether the conflict includes staff members, patrons, or both, the results
of conflict can be devastating. This seminar will explore ways of dealing
with, and minimizing the effects of, interpersonal conflict. Participants
will have the opportunity to share experiences as we try to identify the
best practices for managing conflict between people and controlling its
effects.
Dr. Michael R. McCoy, Executive Director of the Greater Cincinnati Library
Consortium, is a veteran non-profit and association executive. A former
college professor, McCoy has founded non-profit organizations and served
others in many capacities including fund-raising, public relations, program
management, planning and administration, and government affairs. He holds
the Ph.D. degree from Emory University, M.Div. from Princeton Theological
Seminary, and B.A. from Emory and Henry College.

WORKSHOP #2: DEALING WITH UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR
When/Where: Friday, April 16, 2004 from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM at Ohio Valley
Area Libraries (OVAL), 252 W. 13th Street, Wellston, Ohio
Presented by: Officers Dave Ferimer and Robert Wood, The Ohio State
University
Costs: This workshop is free of charge to everyone!
--Here’s your opportunity to engage yourself in an afternoon full of fun and
interaction! "Fun?", you say. Yes, fun! Officers Ferimer and Wood present
this difficult subject matter with humor and understanding. This workshop
will cover such things as safety, observation and perception, legal issues
from the Ohio Revised Code and common state and local violations in
libraries, and law enforcement procedures. Participants will be provided
question and answer time towards the end of the program.
Officers Ferimer and Wood presented this workshop at the Ohio Library
Support Staff Institute (OLSSI) held in August, 2003. Here’s what attendees
had to say about the session: "This was great fun and far more informative
than I expected. Very amusing and eye-opening." "Way exceeded expectations.
Officers Wood & Ferimer were delightful!" "I could have listened to them for
another 2 1/2 hours." To read more comments, visit the OLSSI Web site at
www.olssi.lib.oh.us/.
