The OPLIN Network Hub is moving, and every circuit will be electronically
rolled over from one location to another. This work will be done carefully
and deliberately, region by region, and you will receive a letter in the
mail from OPLIN when we are ready to move your region. The letter will
reiterate points in this message, and provide more precise details on the
timing of the move. The first batch of letters will go out Monday, but it
may be months before we finish the entire state.
The key things you will want to know are:
* When this event does occur, your OPLIN circuit will be down very
briefly, probably no longer than a half hour.
* All this work will take place between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. No
library should be down after 9 a.m.
* We cannot give you a precise date for your library. You will be
given a two-week window of dates. You might want to avoid running
pre-scheduled processes that use the network between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m.
during that period.
* OPLIN staff will call you between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on the day
your circuit is rolled over to update you on its status.
* Beginning the first week in October, you can go to
<http://support.oplin.org/> http://support.oplin.org to find a list of
libraries scheduled for each day approximately 48 hours before they are
scheduled to be moved.
Why are we doing this? DAS Network Services requested the move for security
reasons and in order to provide more effective support management. They are
removing operations from the Rhodes Tower in downtown Columbus and
consolidating it in the State of Ohio Computing Center. We are taking to
opportunity to expand our capacity at the same time.
We don't anticipate problems, but are prepared to proceed slowly and restore
the original configurations if needed.
