We used a 4-port USB controller. In 75% of our machines we took out the Zip and put it in the 3.5 bay, in others we added an adapter and put it in a 5.25.
We got ours from Tiger Direct, but you could also get them from Cables to Go. Here's the product number at Tiger:
CTG USB 2.0 Hi-Speed Front-Bay Hub 4-Port

Subject: [OPLINTECH] Gates machines - USB connector sources ?
Hello Oplintech…
We are migrating Gates machines to XP from NT. The original E-4600 Gates version of Gateway chassis was supplied without front panel USB connectors although the motherboard has a header available. Gateway says they no longer have replacement connector modules for this series. Has anyone on the list with Gates machines been faced with this ? We can put in a usb hub and/or card reader into a 5 ½” drive bay, but would prefer to use the OEM style cable if anyone has identified a viable substitute.
Thanks. I realize that success in this is improbable.
