The solution is something called Flex Profiles (aka hybrid profiles)

They are a cross between roaming and mandatory profiles. The server based
computing community has been using them for several years with great
success.

Subject: [OPLINTECH] Windows User Profiles

My staff is getting bogged down in maintaing Windows user profiles and I
though I'd see what everyone else is doing with profiles.

On our staff side we are all Windows XP and use roaming profiles since
we have lot's of users moving around in the system. About a year and a
half ago we went from mandatory, very locked down user profiles to a
much more open profile where users could do about anything they want
aside from administrative functions. As you may have guessed spyware
has become a problem and a lot of user blow up their profiles for one
reason or another. Size too is always a concern.

Spyware I can tackle by buying software, but I still have problems with
the general maintenance of 800+ profiles for my staff. I want to give
my users some flexibility such as changing menus and such but have to
eliminate incoming profile problems that require my staff to rebuild.
Don't know if I can get the best of both worlds.

What is everyone else doing for profiles? Do you use roaming or local
profiles or something different? Do you have some users that have admin
rights to the workstation or is everyone the same?

Any tips/advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Greg.
