[OPLINTECH] headphones

Jim,

I have had great success wit very durable headphones made by TELEX (which are mostly sold to grade schools) and sound breakout boxes made by CALIFONE that extend the one sound port on the back of a computer to allow up to 10 people to listen to a PC from the following company.

We hand out an alcohol wipe to each person that uses a headphone. Cost is about $15 each.

  Chris

We're trying to work our way out of free headphones, except for children. It seems that our patrons have both expensive tastes and can be very destructive so we decided that we can't keep providing $20 headphones.

  Two suggestions:

Use a headphone extension cable to put the headphone outlet at the front of the computer

If you're going to buy headphones get the $2 ones.

  IMHO

At Dayton Metro Library, we do not have public headphones as an option currently. We might in the future. For those libraries that use public headphones, we have a few questions. Do you allow headphones for adult and children workstations? Do you sell headphones? Do you provide headphones free? If free, what do you do about sanitation concerns? Has sound become disruptive? What policies do you have? Thanks in advance for your help and guidance.
