I'm forwarding this message on behalf of Angela Stuber,
Executive Director of the Ohio Community Computing
Network. OCCN is a great organization whose mission
to provide public computer and Internet access is in step
with public libraries (some of their community technology
centers are ~in~ public libraries, in fact).
Summary: OCCN has negotiated a group purchase for
Deep Freeze software. To participate, contact Angela;
her information is at the bottom of this message.

*Group Purchase of DeepFreeze*
Do you have public access computers that continually experience problems
due to viruses, adware and changed settings? OCCN recommends use of
DeepFreeze to protect the computers.
In coordination with CTCNet, OCCN is facilitating a group purchase of
DeepFreeze which is a software tool used to "freeze" computers in their
current state so that regardless of whatever gets downloaded or changed
on the machine, the computer is easily returned to its original frozen
state simply by turning it off and back on again. Multiple CTCs in OH
have used DeepFreeze for years.
*DeepFreeze Description*
Deep Freeze a non-restrictive, restart-to-restore technology.
Workstations are restored to the standard system configuration with
every restart. The user friendly Polar Bear icon allows staff to view in
a glance if the system is "frozen". Workgroup or Domain computers can be
thawed individually or as a group with password protected access. For
addition information on Deep Freeze follow Faronics' link:

*Testimonial from ACCEL*
Deep Freeze has been protecting the Appalachian Center for Collaborative
and Engaged Learning (ACCEL) Community Technology Centers' and Resource
Centers' computers—24/7 – for two years and has saved us countless hours
of technical time in answering calls because of an internet download,
virus damage and user configuration and installs. "Have you tried
restarting you computer?" is our first response. We have found Deep
Freeze to be a better solution than other more expensive hardware
alterative. ACCEL rests easy knowing that Deep Freeze is preserving each
original computer configurations that we have installed. Each restart
removes any and all modifications.
*Cost*
On your own, the cost per license would be approximately $25. In this
group purchase it will be approximately $14 - $17 per license, depending
upon how large the group purchase is. OCCN and ACCEL will include
administrative and training costs in the group purchase license fees.
Participating sites can send up to five individuals to the training on
how to set up and use DeepFreeze which will be provided by ACCEL.
