[OPLINTECH] MP3 Players - Got Recommendations?

Some good general advice when shopping for MP3 players (particularly for library use) are to:
Look for players that support DRM (digital rights management). The easiest way to do this is look for players that sport Microsoft's "Plays for Sure" logo. This logo asserts that the player will fully support Microsoft's secure WMA format...a popular format for audio books. More info about this can be had by pointing your browser to: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/playsforsure/default.aspx

Look for a player with plenty (ideally 1 GB or larger) of storage, or that uses a removable media (such as compact flash or mmc cards) and can use cards that are this large.

Avoid the Apple line of players...they are the most popular ones out there and are fine technically, but unfortunately they do not support secure WMA. Apple uses their own flavor of DRM that is not compatible with the Windows version.

With these tips in mind, some reputable brands include Rio, Creative Labs, and IRiver.

  OPLIN Tech:

Greetings! The London Public Library is looking at purchasing a MP3 player to begin the process of evaluating e-books in audio format. I can check Consumer Reports and all that jazz, so what I'm looking for is your opinion on any products that you have come across (good/bad). As always, your input is greatly appreciated and well utilized!

  Sincerely,
