I started to download the ISOs a couple of weeks ago but, the traffic at
that moment was kind of high here at Meigs. So I thought that I'd just ask
them to send me all 3 cds. They arrived today (about 10 working days). I am
looking forward to setting up a couple of pcs and a server like Jim did.
Will be an interesting experiment, I think.
There has been huge advances in Linux (and Open source software in
general) in the last few years. So much so, that currently I am using almost
as much OSS as I am proprietary software. With a little additional work
(mostly because of learning curve, not because it's hard to configure...just
a different process) I feel that we can offer more to our patrons at a
reduced cost.

To just try Edubuntu without needing to make CD's, or any h/w, you could
make virtual PC's.
(Good option for the screwdriver challenged)
It is a bit more involved but basically.
Get the 3 iso files from Edubuntu
Download and install the free Vmware Server Console s/w to a decent
Windows PC
We used a 5 year old Dell Poweredge 2500 W2K Server 1ghz, 1gb ram
Sort of slow but worked. Amount of ram was fine.
Set up a virtual PC with the CD pointing to the Live Cd iso
One NIC ~ bridged to the physical network
Boot this virtual PC and run the workstation.
Or Make 2 virtual PC's
On one, point the CD to the install CD and create a server.
(2 NIC's in this virtual pc)
First to a virtual network
The other bridged to the physical network
Then make another virtual pc
One NIC to the same virtual network
When it boots it will download and run from the virtual server.
