We have Google Picasa on all our workstations for patrons to work with pictures. It is probably THE best free photo software on the web (http://www.picasa.org)
Friends groups have purchased scanners at some of our branches and we will be putting them out with the same image as our public software with the software the scanner came with also installed. I just created an extra profile login for the scanner that has the icons for the scanner software on the desktop.

We have had a few requests for a document scanner to be available to the public, and I was wondering if anyone is doing this and what comments you have about providing this service. I am particularly concerned since one patron wants to scan checks for deposit directly into a bank account.
I was also wondering if you allow patrons to download pictures directly from their digital cameras and if so, what type of picture manipulation software you provide, if any.
Thanks and have a great day.
