Most providers say that a DNS transfer takes 24 hours. But once one of
the big ISPs like Time Warner pickups your new DNS it moves pretty
quickly. Our switch from greenelinbrary.net (which was our test site) to
greenelibrary.info only took a few minutes.
Just out of curiosity have you discussed hosting with OPLIN?
GCPL uses GoDaddy as the registrar and hosts with OPLIN. My personal
domains are hosted by justfree since free is one step better than
inexpensive but I'm not recommending a free ISP for a library website.

Subject: [OPLINTECH] transferring a domain
We are considering a domain name transfer from our current provider
Network Solutions to a more economical service such as the one at
1and1.com. I use 1and1.com for several personal and non-profit domains
and am happy with their service. Their transfer directions look pretty
simple and straightforward.
A couple questions for those who have ever transferred a domain.
Were there any issues with downtime where the domain name service
couldn't find your servers?
Any words of wisdom on what to look out for?
Thanks for your help.
