I've not fully read into IE 8 yet, but I also saw this article which
mentions that there is a META tag developers can use to control which
viewing mode the page is rendered in. This might help mitigate the issue
to some extent.

The hits just keep on coming.  Many websites will break when Microsoft
releases Internet Explorer 8 out to the world very soon.  By the end of
2009 it will be on Millions o fcomputers.   One of the features it has
added is called "Compatibility View" which will help show those pages
which do not conform to the new standards.  Something else IT will
eventually inevitably have to manage. Sigh... for more info see here.
