Hi Lucretia,
If you just want it for email it is a viable solution. We used Wyse
thin Clients and then a few off brands for several years at CCPL until
the needed plugins for the various sites got out of hand. Nowadays
most all Thin Clients have a built in browser. Depending on what the
base OS is (windows ce, xpe or Linux) will determine if it is Internet
Explorer or Firefox. (in other words a CE or XPE client will have
Explorer while a linux based one will have Firefox) If you get an Xpe
which stands for XP embedded you can put additional programs and plug
ins on it up to the size of the flash and will also be able to continue
to use deep freeze.
I would recommend that you stay with HP, Wyse, or Vxl. I saw the
following HP http://gem.compaq.com/gemstore/ctobases.asp?oi=E9CED at the
Citrix show a few months back and it is pretty nice having XP embedded.
(unless you have an affinity towards linux) I like the XP embedded ones
because it still has the look and feel of windows and you can run
notepad etc on it. They are easily reimaged and reasonably priced.

Good Afternoon,
I wanted to find out if any of you have thin client computers at your
library being used as email only stations and if so, what brands and
models do you have? Also, how are you locking them down and do
you have a time limit as to how long the patron can use the station?
We currently use deepfreeze to lock the computers down and PC
reservation to reserve and limit the time a patron can use a computer.
I would like to look into using Windows Steadystate to lock the
computers
down with so any suggestions that anyone could give me would be highly
appreciated.
Thanks,
Lucretia Wiley
