Hi Lynne:
The IE Blocker Toolkit is freely available from the Microsoft Download
Center here is the link
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=21687628-5806-4ba6-
9e4e-8e224ec6dd8c&displaylang=en
it creates the following Registry Key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Setup\8.0
with the Following Subkey name : DoNotAllowIE80
With the value of 0 = allow or 1= blocked
To use the IE8 Blocker Toolkit
1. Download it to a computer or thumb drive and Unzip it
2. From a Command line switch to the directory (Go to Start, and then Run,
type CMD and hit enter)
3. Run the IE8Blocker from the command line in the directory it is located
with the switch of your choice
For example,
IE8Blocker.cmd / b would block delivery of IE8 via Windows Update
IE8Blocker.cmd / u would unblock it
The link above has a very detailed description on it, I just gave a rough
summary. I plan on doing this in the morning to my staff and critical
machines until I am positive IE8 is not going to break or interfere with
anything.
I hope that helps
Sincerely
Ron Woods
