I can't help you with the pc registration but, a simple samba print server
using the CUPS web interface is what we use for printing.

I've included a print screen of the interface if you're interested in what
it looks like. The only problem is that CUPS doesn't have drivers for every
printer. So to get some printers to work, you need to print raw from the
client to the print server. This works pretty good except page count will
not be correct as it can't count the pages if it's sent in raw format. It
will tell you the kb size of the file and that will give you a pretty good
idea if your patron has tried to print 50 pages of something.

Greetings,

 

I spoke with an Envisionware tech support agent today about future
compatibility with Windows 7 and Vista but was politely told there is no
timeline available (or planned to be available) for Envisionware to work
with either OS.  As this officially puts us 2 operating systems behind
currently available technology I was wondering if anyone could point me
towards other patron management software packages that may be comparable to
Envisionware.

 

Thanks in advance for any leads you can give me on this subject.  As a side
note, I know there are a lot of OpenSource fans on this list (I'm one,
depending on the product), and it's an option that's worth considering- but
for now I'm still looking for Windows as the OS.
