[OPLINTECH] Webroot Endpoint

I was happy when Sourcefire Inc. first acquired Immunet and started to tuck
it under the ClamAV umbrella as the Windows version of the popular linux
version of clam. Immunet provides real-time on access scanning using the
clam database, which has been a hugely desired...but notably
absent...feature for the various Windows-based AV scanners using the clam
database. I had hoped that development would progress at a rapid pace.
Honestly, though, from an outsiders perspective...I'm disappointed. Unless
things are moving and shaking behind the scenes, it almost looks like
things have stagnated. Yeah...Immunet is using the current clam database
(et al.), but the user interface and feature set hasn't seemed to change.
At all.
That being said, however....it DOES work well enough. Good enough for a
Frozen patron computer. Not good enough for a staff computer, though, IMO.
(I had just hoped for more obvious aggressive development.) I've been
sticking with Symantec Endpoint Protection (from Techsoup) for the staff
computers and mostly Immunet/Spybot/Deep Freeze on the patron computers.
Immunet catches some of the viruses. Spybot's Immunize feature and Resident
feature watch for general malware, and Deep Freeze is the ultimate
protector.
Disclaimer: I haven't visited the Immunet website(s) and support pages in
quite a while. It's likely that things are going on there that I'm not
aware of!
2 cents.
