[OPLINTECH] GCPL: Windows 8 impressions?

I found my experience to be far different than what the pretty pictures show. I thought Metro was cluttered (unlike all the pretty pictures they show.) It was confusing to bounce back and forth between Metro and what I'll call Windows 7.1 desktop. Also, more ribbon…blech! I also agree that the experience using mouse and keyboard was clumsy. I frankly can't picture a world yet that has all touch screen monitors.
As far as I can tell, all this really did was replace the start button with a needless start screen. Apple seems to have a clear strategy on merging desktop and mobile OS, knowing the desktop is dying. Microsoft on the other hand sends to be hacking a tablet OS onto the desktop trying to meet a demand for touch screen monitors which doesn't exist.
The MS app store is nice though...very easy to install and uninstall apps.
I'm guessing this will be like most Microsoft releases…skip this one and but the next one. Seems they've built a pattern of "buy every other one."
Greg.

I was “all thumbs” with it over the weekend on my desktop. Also the registry edit that worked in Developer Preview did not work in Customer Preview edition.
I had a very frustrating time with it.

Subject: [OPLINTECH] GCPL: Windows 8 impressions?
Anyone have any first impressions about Windows 8?
May first impression about a month ago was that I needed a tablet or at least a touch screen.
My impression over the weekend is that I’m not really getting the full experience on a typical patron desktop.
My final impression is that I’ll be well retired and gone before I see what is obviously an ARM based OS on a public desktop.
Anyone else have any impressions?
