We have an exciting program for you. Session topics include program planning tools, ebooks without vendors, 3-D Printing, PDA and instruction within learning management systems. The program is designed to introduce you to new technologies surrounding the topics above and update you on what is new and innovative in libraries.

The shortest poem in the English language is especially true in librarianship. We are each individually tasked with serving our communities but what happens when we include our community members in our services? By utilizing patron driven acquisitions, user created programming, community centered strategic planning, and service models that include the public in planning, we can expand our programs and services in a way that is most meaningful to our communities. After all, who knows better about our patron's needs than the patrons themselves? This session will discuss the successes and failures of deep community involvement in librarianship in a discussion group format.

PDA for Public Libraries - Whose Library Is It Anyway?

What is PDA - Patron Driven Acquisitions - and how is it practiced in our public libraries, the West Lafayette Public Library in particular? With over a year of experience with a PDA program at the West Lafayette Public Library (begun after preliminary discussions with Purdue University Libraries, a leader in the PDA program in academic libraries), librarian Nick Schenkel will present his findings and thoughts about the importance of PDA to public library patrons, professional librarians and other library staff.
