I realize Stephen's original post was only on OPLINList, so I've included it below for reference.

Today I toured Accurate IT's facility (only about 5 minutes from the OPLIN office it turns out) at their invitation, and wanted to share the experience.

I enjoyed the atmosphere (big unheated warehouse with stuff all over) and what they presented as their ideology. I saw around 30 people busily moving things around, tearing things apart, and testing electronics to see if they could resell it. They reiterated the idea of taking anything with a cord, and seemed to genuinely believe that even if there wasn't really any money in an item for them, they were happy to keep one less thing out of a landfill. They also seem to take data privacy seriously talking at length about the areas where they wipe data storage devices, and destroy them if the wipe was questionable. There's no secondary warehouses or subcontractors, just teams of drivers circling the state and returning to their Columbus location at night to unload.

It's probably because I grew up working in the family flea market in Barnesville, but the place felt very genuine.

They didn't take me out to lunch or let me keep any of the cool stuff I saw, nor do I have any interest in the business. If you work for DAS please resist the urge to make me watch an ethics webinar, that punishment is unfit for all but the worst of monsters.
