[OPLINTECH] Email service

Allen, as a public library you should be able to sign up for base level office 365 educational (I think it's called something like E1) for free from Microsoft. As a library that has also bought MS software through techsoup, it took MS less than 12 hours to approve us for the free services. As I recall, you basically setup a 30 day trial of an educational site license, apply to have E1 level for free and once approved you're on your way.

The one thing worth noting, is that the trial gives you E3 access (which costs money per user, but includes things that I didn't think we would ever have a need for), and it will give you email warnings about losing access to your E3 services that at first blush looks like it's referring to everything...

Best of luck.

Joe

Hi Allen,

I don't have any single specific endorsement for cloud mail services, but I know from past experience that there is Google Apps and Office 365 in addition to services like Zoho.

Since you sound like you would like to stay in the Microsoft camp, have you researched any of the Office 365 offerings? I am pretty certain that there are several different free and discount options available.

In fact, there was some discuss on this topic here on OPLIN Tech early last year. Perhaps one of those involved will be able to provide an update on their experiences.

Hope this helps to get you started.

All,
We currently are running Exchange 2010 on a virtual server, which is all cheap through techsoup.org. However we only have about 10 email accounts and I really don't want to upgrade Exchange and continue to mess with it since we have so few accounts. What is a cheap service that we can use for email and keep our domain name? I had found zoho.com earlier, but i was leaning more towards Exchange Online or something to that effect. We have a few computers with Outlook setup on them, but most people use OWA.

Thoughts??
