[OPLINTECH] Windows update

I just ran into this yesterday afternoon too at one of my libraries. After
several hours, I aborted and didn't fully investigate the issue because
we're replacing the computers in about two months anyway and I was only
trying to make a very minimal effort into fixing a few issues in order to
keep them usable for the next couple of months. I didn't want to waste a
lot of time (money) on them.
As part of the minimal effort, however, I had run a script I have that
fully resets the Windows Update subsystem. That almost always clears up any
and all Windows Update issues. But it this case, it didn't seem to help on
four of the five Win7 Pro computers I was working on. I just figured it was
just part of the garbage that had started to cripple the computers in the
first place. Didn't realize that it was a recent common Thing until Kevin
mentioned it!
In reviewing the MS KB, my script is just the "Manually reset Windows
Update components" section...in automated form. So I guess my response
would be: The KB Ken mentioned didn't help in my case.
The reason I created the script in the first place, though, is that I've
run into this issue occasionally over the years and I use the script as an
easy/complete fix. (It often also has the benefit of freeing up several GB
of storage space, if you're really tight on space.)
