[OPLINTECH] Thoughts on HP ProDesk computers

In my own experience, I've found that HP equipment is generally pretty
reliable across the board. Like with Microsoft branded hardware, HP
generally seems to want their branded hardware to be associated with
"quality".
That being said, the only HP branded equipment I've ever actively prefered
to buy/sell/use is their printer line of equipment. This has nothing to do
with quality, but has everything to do with price. Time and time again I
see a too-large premium on HP branded (non-printer) equipment at the
distributor level. I just can't justify the premium when there are lots of
other options available that are of equal hardware quality. That, and HP
keeps a pretty tight lock on their distribution channel, ensuring that only
HP-approved channel partners can sell their equipment. (Good for helping to
maintain control over the distribution and support channel, but no so good
for smaller resellers like myself that don't want to be locked into any
particular manufacturer's minimum sales quotas and channel support
requirements...numerous time consuming hoops that must be regularly jumped
through.)
That being said, if you have a good HP partner that you're working with and
prices that you're happy with, I wouldn't have any qualms at all with using
HP branded equipment. The caveat would be: only business class equipment.
But that's a caveat *regardless* of the manufacturer. Business class
computers -- yes; consumer-class computers -- no (unless you like higher
failure rates, poorer performance, and quicker upgrade cycles).
