[OPLINTECH] AV and Ransomware

I can't comment about Symantec vs. Bitdefender, but one big thing to do
to defend against any kind of malware, which hopefully goes without
saying, is:
Load all the updates. As soon as possible after they come out. All
computers and other network-connected devices. OS, software, firmware.
Another good idea is to use Cisco Umbrella (formerly called Umbrella by
OpenDNS), which you can use for free through OPLIN:
https://www.oplin.ohio.gov/opendns
This can be used to filter web content, which we don't do, but it also
has a category for blocking malicious web sites -- that's the only
category we block. I've seen this service block links that people click
in phishing emails.
That's not a comprehensive list of ways to protect against malware, of
course.
