[SOA] SOA Offers Continuing Education Scholarship

The Society of Ohio Archivists is offering a Continuing Education Scholarship for this year's spring meeting. Utilizing funds raised from the silent auction at the 2005 conference, Council recently voted to offer a $150 travel scholarship and free registration to an SOA member. 


Eligibility for the Continuing Education Scholarship of $150 cash and free registration is open to all SOA members who live more than 50 miles from the conference site (Columbus, Ohio). Applications will be rated based on:
	·	Applicant's written statement of how conference will benefit them professionally
	·	Applicant's scholarship and contribution to archives, in comparison with his/her number of years in the field
	·	Applicant's level of financial support for attending the conference from his/her employer


Applicants are expected to attend both Thursday and Friday of the conference and will be recognized at the Thursday evening reception. In addition, the winner will write a column in the Ohio Archivist describing their experience at the conference. The Society of Ohio Archivists will hold its spring meeting April 19-21 at the Ohio Historical Center in Columbus. The conference begins with a pre-conference workshop on scrapbook conservation lead by Brian Meggitt of the Intermuseum Conservation Association in Cleveland. Max Evans, Executive Directory of the National Historical Records Administration, will deliver the plenary on Thursday, April 20. Twelve sessions will be held during the conference, on such topics as disaster planning, JPEG 2000, public records, and outreach. A business meeting/reception will take place on Thursday afternoon. Other conference highlights include student poster sessions, restaurant tours, a silent auction, and tours to the Ohio Governor's Residence, State Library and Ohio Historical Society. Pre-registration is $40 for SOA members and $50 for non-members. Registration includes lunch both days and parking.
