All,

Action is being taken on the PAHR legislation today. We still do not
have an Ohio sponsor for the bill. Please help support archives by
contacting your representative and asking him or her to support this
legislation. See Jelain's e-mail below for more information.

Subject: FW: Action Alert: Contact your Representative about PAHR

Dear SOA members:

We have an unprecedented opportunity to bring attention and much needed
funding to archives in Ohio and across the country. But your immediate
help is critical!

By May 10! Urge your Representative to sign on to the "Preserving
the American Historical Record" bill.

The latest news about PAHR: Congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-NY) and
Congressman Chris Cannon (R-UT) have just sent a "dear colleague"
letter to the members of the House of Representatives, inviting them to
sign on as original sponsors for the "Preserving the American
Historical Record" bill.

What should you do? Before May 10,
--fax, email, or call your Representative and
--urge him/her to respond to the Hinchey-Cannon Dear Colleague Letter
and sign on as an original sponsor for the PAHR bill.
--tell your representative in a few sentences why PAHR will benefit his
or her constituents-that means you, your organization, and your
researchers.
--send them the attached explanation of PAHR and the handout explaining
why PAHR will benefit your state.

And if you can do a little more... Encourage others to contact your
Representative as well. Genealogists, local government officials,
researchers of all kinds, teachers, veterans, and even your favorite
aunt can make the case.

Attached is a word document copy of this Action Alert, and a copy of
the PAHR fact sheet to assist you in providing information on this
effort. If you need help or more information: We have posted
information on the web at:

http://www.archivists.org/pahr/index.asp
<http://www.archivists.org/pahr/index.asp> . You'll find:
--the PAHR fact sheet,
--a copy of the bill,
--draft letters and resolutions, and
--other materials to help you encourage your Representative to support
PAHR.

If you have any questions about how to proceed, or what PAHR will do
for your organization or state, contact us for help or information.

Please take a few minutes in the coming week to make a call, pay a
visit, or send a fax/email/letter to your Members of Congress. It's
time to tell Congress that what we do matters a great deal to this
country and its inhabitants. Americans need and deserve the resources to
ensure access to our heritage. We can do this-with your help!
