[SOA] Position Open - Government Records Archivist

The Ohio Historical Society (OHS) is accepting applications for a
Government Records Archivist I position within the State Archives. This
position is primarily responsible for providing archival and records
management advice and assistance to local government entities as well as
appraising and processing local government records.

The archivist will assist in carrying out the following direct program
efforts: identifying and appraising record series; reviewing records
retention schedules and disposal lists; transferring local government
records; accessioning, arranging and describing government records;
preparing records for microfilming and digitization; performing basic
holdings maintenance activities; employing the efficient use of storage
space and equipment; consulting with public officials on records
creation, maintenance, storage, and disposition issues; revising records
retention manuals; and conducting workshops/presentations for public
officials and other interested audiences. The archivist may also
supervise interns and volunteers.  

The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated knowledge of archival
principles, techniques, and practices and be familiar with various types
of local government offices and records series. The abilities to express
oneself clearly and effectively in written and oral form, to establish
and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, and
work well within a flexible work routine and within prioritized project
schedules are essential. Successful candidates should also be familiar
with Microsoft applications (Word, Access, Excel, and Outlook) and must
be able to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 50 pounds, climb ladders
to shelve or retrieve materials, and work in varied environmental
conditions that may contain dust and mold.  In-state travel will be
required.

Preferred qualifications include a master's degree in archival studies,
library science (with an archival component), American history, or other
areas of the humanities or the equivalent work experience plus one to
three years relevant experience. Certified Archivist designation or the
commitment to obtain such is desirable.  A valid driver's license is
required.
