        *President Trump Nominates New NEH Chairman*

The president announced last week that he intends to nominate Jon 
Parrish Peede as the 11th Chairman of the National Endowment for the 
Humanities (NEH). Peede has served as Senior Deputy Chairman of the NEH 
since April 2017, and has been the senior official there since former 
chairman Dr. William D. "Bro" Adams stepped down in May. Prior to 
joining NEH, he served as Publisher of the /Virginia Quarterly Review 
/and in a number of senior leadership roles at the National Endowment

*NARA to Move Records to DC for Declassification Review*

According to the Federation of American Scientists (FAS), the National 
Archives and Records Administration (NARA) plans to move tens of 
millions of pages of classified documents from the fourteen Presidential 
Libraries to Washington, DC for declassification review. This move is 
intended to expedite the process of making records available to the

*NEH Increases Monthly Stipend for Fellowships*

The National Endowment for the Humanities has announced that fellowship 
recipients will now be awarded a stipend of $5000 per month, up $800 
from previous years, for a total of $30,000-$60,000 over a six to 
twelve-month fellowship. This increase applies to the approximately 80 
NEH Fellowships and 10 NEH-Mellon Fellowships for Digital Publication

        *NHPRC and Mellon Foundation Announce Grant Winners*

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and the National Historical Publications 
and Records Commission (NHPRC) recently awarded eight grants to build 
sustainable systems for the digital publication of historic records. The 
grants, awarded through the Digital Edition Publishing Cooperatives 
Program, support efforts to make historical records more readily

*National Parks Received 330 Million Visits in 2017*

The National Park Service (NPS) has released visitation data for 2017, 
which shows that 330 million recreation visits were made to NPS sites, 
including memorials, battlefields, and other historic sites. These 
numbers are encouraging, but heavy usage also contributes to the 
maintenance backlog at NPS, which needs to be addressed in the agency's

*NPS Accepting Proposals for HBCU Preservation Grants *

The National Park Service is now accepting applications for $4 million 
in grants to help preserve historic buildings on the campuses of

*Native American and Native Hawaiian Library Grants Open*

The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) is accepting 
applications until May 1st for library services grants for 
institutions that primarily serve Native Americans or Native Hawaiians. 
Both programs offer grants of up to $150,000 for two years, with a focus 
on either Preservation and Revitalization, Educational Programming, or
