Join library marketing expert Sharon (Shay) Baker, co-author of "The
Responsive Public Library Collection: How to Develop and Market a
Winning Collection" for two days of information on marketing library
collections. This workshop will focus on the 4 P's of marketing and how
they relate to libraries, marketing materials within the library (stack
arrangement and location, shelf and stack labeling, booklists, materials
displays), collection-related promotion programs, and suggestions for
implementing a marketing mindset throughout the library.

Join library marketing expert Sharon (Shay) Baker, co-author of "The
Responsive Public Library Collection: How to Develop and Market a
Winning Collection" as she discusses what research shows on the subject
of fiction categorization, the actual practice of fiction categorization
(including principles for selecting categories, readers' advisory tools
to aid in sorting the collection, and spine labeling and more), research
on other forms of categorization (how the DDC handles nonfiction and
subdivision of non-book media, how book stores and media outlets handle
these issues, the effects of such subdivision on partron satisfaction
and use), categorization that works well with standard library practices
(recommended schemes for non-fiction books and different types of
media), day-to-day aspects of categorization, and a wrap up of
suggestions for further action for individual libraries and the field.
