Hello...

Storytellers, Story Lovers and Story Writers...And all of you who use
stories in your Work!!

The first Ohio brainstorming meeting to form an ALL OHIO STORYTELLING
ASSOCIATION, will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2005, from 1:00 p.m. to
6:00 p.m. at the Columbus Metropolitan Library, 96 S. Grant Avenue,
Columbus, Ohio. 

There has been interest among many of us in Ohio to form a new group which
would encompass all aspects of services provided by Ohio's wonderful
storytellers. This would include promoters, librarians, teachers, writers,
and avid fans of the oral tradition. 

Recently, the Ohio Order for the Preservation of Storytelling (OOPS),
http://www.oopstorytelling.org/ <http://www.oopstorytelling.org/> , gave its
blessing to the formation of such a group. The OOPS board feels that their
current activities, revolving around their May Festival, keep them at
capacity.

We envision a group, patterned after the Florida, Kentucky, New Mexico, and
Virginia Storytelling Associations. Ideas that we have might include  a
directory of all groups, tellers, promoters, writers, etc. There could also
be continuing education at all levels, with an expanded component that would
reach out to mentor children as storytellers. There may also be interest in
a storytelling camp. The brainstorming sessions are designed to gather input
and ideas on this project. 

The meeting will be facilitated by the Ohio Arts Council, so that all
participating will have equal footing and input.  The facilitator will
assist with our brainstorming, collecting all our ideas and then helping to
categorize, collate and put out minutes for discussion at future meetings.
We envision this as a group that listens to, benefits from, and shares
information, education, support, and friendship among all lovers of story
and storytelling in Ohio.

friends and colleagues across Ohio who love story.
