Head of Youth Services
Mechanicsburg Public Library
Mechanicsburg, Ohio
Responsibilities include providing quality reference assistance and =
reader-advisory services to children, parents, caregivers, home =
educators and teachers using print and electronic resources; developing, =
coordinating, presenting, and evaluating children's and young adults' =
programs, activities, and events; evaluating and selecting books and =
other materials for children and supervision of 1 full time and 1 part =
time staff and occasional volunteers.
Job qualifications: knowledge of and passion for children's literature; =
knowledge of standard collection development methods; experience in =
planning and presenting successful children's programs; excellent =
community relations skills in a small-town environment; ability to work =
with teachers and school administrators; ability to use the Internet and =
other information technologies effectively; excellent verbal and written =
communications skills; creativity and self-motivation; strong =
organizational skills and a good sense of humor are necessary for the =
successful candidate.
This position entails 40 hours per week, including some evenings and =
weekends. Excellent benefits including Board-paid individual health =
insurance, 10 paid holidays, PERS, 120 hours paid sick leave, and 3 =
weeks paid vacation to start. Starting salary range: $21,000-$23,500 =
commensurate with education and experience. MLS highly desirable; credit =
hours leading to an MLS from and ALA-accredited program, coupled with =
experience in the field, will be given serious consideration. Bachelor's =
Degree and library experience working with groups of children is =
required.
