 Licensing Electronic Resources Part I - An Introduction to Agreements

Description:
The process of acquiring electronic information and databases is
complicated by the variety of licenses and agreements provided by
producers. This introductory workshop is intended to help library staff
understand acquisition of electronic resources via license agreements.
It will include sections on understanding licensing in terms of Contract
Law v. Copyright Law, reading and understanding basic license terms, and
advice on how to prepare the library to revise and negotiate licenses.
Sample license agreements will be used as examples. An overview of
"General Guidelines for Creation, Content and Handling of License
Agreements", the latest American Library Association/Association for
Library Collections and Technical Services Publisher/Vendor Library
Relations Committee document, will be provided. Recommended as the first
part of a two-part workshop.  (part 2 is on August 12, 2005)
