OVAL has exciting workshops lined up for YOU . . .

New Planning for Results Long Range Planning
Jan Haines and Rebecca Felkner, State Library Consultants

The State Library of Ohio will present long range planning workshops at
seven sites across the state. State Library Consultants Jan Haines and
Rebecca Felkner will conduct the day-long workshops on the long range
planning process New Planning for Results (NPFR). Library administration and
trustees are encouraged to attend but all library staff is welcome to
attend.

The workshops are an outgrowth of the free assistance that the State Library
offers to Ohio libraries on the New Planning for Results process.
Consultants Haines and Felkner are certified NPFR trainers and facilitators.
They have attended Public Library Association sponsored seminars on the
topic of train-the-trainer and facilitating the New Planning for Results
taught by library consultant Sandra Nelson, the creator of the New Planning
for Results process. Haines and Felkner have facilitated several planning
processes for Ohio libraries.

The New Planning for Results is a streamlined long range planning process
that was especially designed for libraries. The process is driven largely by
determining the needs of the community and choosing library service
priorities to meet those needs. By focusing on the community's needs, your
library will be able to allocate resources wisely. Highlights of the NPFR
process are its short time line for completion, its use as a marketing tool
to generate support for the library, its adaptability and ease of
implementation.

During the New Planning for Results workshop, attendees will gain an
understanding of the entire process and how to conduct the NPFR process at
their own libraries.

Costs: $15 for all

The Visible Librarian: Library Marketing & Advocacy
Judith Siess, Information Bridges International
--Libraries are no longer a given. Corporations are closing their libraries
right and left. Hospitals once had to have a library on-site and a degreed
librarian on staff, but now only have to provide "access to medial
information." How can you market your library to avoid becoming a
"non-critical" part of your organization or community? How can you market
yourself and our profession? Is your library getting the financial support
it needs? This workshop will teach you the basics of customer service,
marketing, and advocacy so you can change from the invisible to the visible
librarian!

Judith A. Siess is a recognized expert in one-person librarianship and
interpersonal networking. She has drawn from her more than twenty years
experience and written four books: The SOLO Librarian's Sourcebook
(Information Today, 1997), The OPL Sourcebook: A Guide for Solo and Small
Libraries (Information Today, 2001), Time Management, Planning and
Prioritization for Librarians (Scarecrow, 2002), and The Visible Librarian:
Asserting Your Value Through Marketing and Advocacy (ALA Editions, 2003).
Judith Siess also has been the editor and publisher of The One-Person
Library: A Newsletter for Librarians and Management since 1998 and is the
author of articles for publications such as American Libraries and Searcher.
An active member of SLA, she was the inaugural chair of its SOLO Librarian's
division, which is now the fifth largest division of the association with
nearly 1,000 members. Judith Siess conducts workshops for continuing
professional education in the United States and abroad.
