The New Planning for Results: Strategic Planning in the Library

http://www.gclc-lib.org/ce/viewevent.php?id=532

      Date:

Thursday, May 12th, 2005

      Time:

9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

      Location:

GCLC Office

      Speaker:

Rebecca Felkner and Jan Haines, Library Consultants,
State Library of Ohio

      Description:

The New Planning for Results (NPFR) is a strategic planning tool
recommended by PLA. In this full day workshop, you will learn how the
NPFR process will help better manage your library. NPFR is a community
driven process, based on the community needs, not on what the library
perceives as the community needs. Through NPFR, you write a long range
plan that is unique to your library and community.

Goals for this workshop include:

   1. The participants will be able to communicate the reasoning behind
the planning process to their staff, board, and community.
   2. The participants will be able to lead their library through the
      planning process.
   3. The participants will understand the implications of the library
      service responses.
   4. The participants will understand how to translate the community
vision statement into community needs and how to translate the
community needs into the library service responses.
   5. The participants will feel comfortable inviting key community
leaders to participate in the process.
   6. The participants will understand how their long range plan can
      serve as a marketing tool:
          * A guide to market services
          * To communicate how the library meets the needs of the community
          * To build a mutually beneficial relationship between the
library and its community, which could help gather support
            for future levies
   7. The participants will understand that NPFR will help libraries
      manage their future.

      Meal:

A variety of sandwiches and salads will be available. Please indicate if
you prefer vegetarian options.
