Boys are in trouble. All right, it seems boys are always in trouble, but
this is serious. Boys are failing to read at an alarming rate. Libraries
are not solving the problem because boys are not a presence in
libraries. Find out how we lose boys, and why, what the consequences are
for boys, and what we as educators and librarians can do to save boys
from lives as non-readers. Michael Sullivan is the Director of the Weeks
Public Library in Greenland, New Hampshire, a professional storyteller,
a former program leader at the Boston Museum of Science, and author of
/Connecting Boys with Books: What Libraries Can Do/ and /The American
Library Association Handbook of Children's Services/.

*Clermont County Public Library "Hands Up! Puppet Troupe"* will focus on
how to use puppets with an audience in a program, classroom or
presentation setting. The emphasis will be on manipulating the hand
puppet, adding voice and characterization, and the basics of using a
puppet to introduce or tell a story, as well as how to organize a simple
puppet show for children.

*Kenton County Public Library Children's Staff* presenters Terri Diebel,
Children's Librarian, and Erin Seitz, Children's Programmer, will take
us on a literary journey through all genres of 2005 picture books
including both fiction and non-fiction.

Manager of Children and Young Adult Services, and staff will demonstrate
books and ideas for innovative literacy extension activities making
literature come to life in a fun, imaginative and educational way for
children ages preschool through sixth grade.

program which promotes family literacy by reinforcing the role of the
family as a major social and economic unit. It trains parents and
children to bond together around the act of reading and learning
together to improve skill and achievements. Presenters Dana Eness and
Oneal Isaac will share information on how schools and libraries can
qualify for this grant to promote family literacy in local communities.
The national expansion of Prime Time is made possible through a grant
from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), which also
supported earlier grants for implementation in Louisiana and is a
cooperative endeavor with the American Library Association (ALA) Public
Programs Office.
