PROGRAM REMINDER:
It is not too late to reserve space in the Central Ohio Chapter
of the American Society for Information Science & Technology
Workshop:

"Your Environmental Scan"

Are you wondering about how to begin the planning process
for your library or information agency? Do your plans
accommodate the changing environment of your users and patrons?

Come to hear and practice the basic processes that Alane Wilson
has developed to create the OCLC Environmental Scan. Use the
specific steps presented to better describe and understand the
environment that your users experience. Learn to identify and
approach the sources of fear and anxiety that often drive the
planning process in organizations that want to establish a
new direction.

This workshop is designed to facilitate action at the local level.
Plan on attending and develop new insights into how to guide
your organization. Lunch will be provided during a casual
discussion period.

Alane Wilson, presenter and facilitator for this workshop,
graduated from the University of British Columbia's School
of Library and Information Studies in Vancouver in 1986,=20
and joined the staff of the University of Calgary (Alberta,
Canada) Libraries the same year as a reference librarian.
In 1995, she was hired by the University of Alaska Fairbanks
Rasmuson Library as Head of Reference and Instructional
Services. In 1997, Alane joined OCLC as a sales representative.
In March 2003, after working in marketing and sales, she
resigned from OCLC, but Jay Jordan (OCLC CEO) recruited
her in June 2003 to work on the OCLC Environmental Scan.
Alane rejoined OCLC fulltime in May 2004. In addition to co-
authoring and editing the Scan, she has published articles,
spoken to many groups, and is one of three OCLC contributors
to the "It's All Good" blog.
