I understand what you are saying about the public (residents)
recognizing MORE as the mechanism that allows them to get library
material and I agree that this is a very important consideration.  

 

There is another important consideration in this: MORE is not recognized
necessarily as a library service by the legislators.  Moving Ohio
Resources Everywhere in no way, shape or form indicates what resources
are being moved (e.g. is it furniture?).  It is important that any
service provided by the State Library and the library community in
general be easily recognized by a rapidly changing body of the
legislature (due to term limits) as a LIBRARY service.  

 

I think that this is not an "either -- or" situation.  There is a way to
incorporate the old and the new so that MORE is not lost but we also
clearly identify this service as an Ohio library community sharing
project.  Perhaps we should think of this as a clarification of what
MORE is and not a replacement for the name itself.  It might look
something like "Ohio Libraries Share : MORE" -- because that is exactly
what you are all doing: libraries are sharing so that more can be made
available to the residents of our state, regardless of where they live.


 

Thank you for bringing up your concerns and ideas.  I think that this
kind of dialogue makes us think of other alternatives.  I hope this note
clarifies and eases the concerns. 

 

I wanted to send this to you two first before posting it to the
listservs.  I plan on posting this to both MORE and OPLIN listservs.

I totally disagree that the name change is necessary or even a good 

idea. I think this is only going to confuse the patrons.  I also 

think that this is a decision that ought to be on the OPLIN 

list.  Not every person dealing with MORE is on the MORE list.

 

Please rethink this decision.

 

The negativity for this product is fromthe staff.  I too have been 

frustrated many times with MORE, but the patrons of my libraries love
it.

 

Having a  MORE link in all of our catalog webpages has opened a whole 

new world for them.

 

I truly think that changing the name from MORE to something else will 

cause more patron confusion.  Patrons don't seem to really care what 

software is behind the name, they just want to locate new items that 

they can't find in their local libraries.

 

Please rethink the idea of changing the name of MORE.  We are here to 

serve the needs of the patrons in the state of Ohio.
