We purchase a new book of the same subject and put a new memorial plaque
(saying the same as the old one) in the new book.
When the new book comes in and is processed we call a family member of
the person the book was in memory of, or if that's not possible we call the
person that donated the book. We tell them that they may have the old book
(if they want it) and tell them that we have purchased a new book to take
its place and that they may come in and check it out or see it if they wish.
If we do not have anyone to contact about the book we still do the same
thing with purchasing a new book and plaque but we either put the old book
in the book sale or discard it, depending on the condition of the book.
This way there is still a book in memory of that person in our
collection.
This has been appreciated by the family members and donors.
