Newark Public Library - Newark, Ohio

 


Branch Assistant - Grade 4 (Full-time)


Mary E. Babcock Library, 320 N. Main Street, Johnstown, OH 43031

 

Under the supervision of the Branch Manager of the Mary E. Babcock
Library in Johnstown, the person in this position assists patrons in
borrowing and using Library materials, services, and equipment; assists
the Branch Manager and/or other professional staff in planning and
presenting programs and services for various age-appropriate groups;
and, assists patrons with reader's advisory information as appropriate. 

 

This is a full-time position - 37.5 hours per week, 75.0 hours per pay
period.  The successful candidate will be scheduled, on average, to work
5-7.5 hour days, Monday through Saturday, with a daily unpaid
lunch-break of between 30 and 60 minutes.  The typical work day,
however, may vary in order to meet the branch's hours it is open to the
public.  Additionally, if needed and properly trained in public service
functions, could be required to work additional hours on Sundays at Main
Library (paid at time-and-a-half).

Pay Rate

The pay for this position starts at $804.49 on bi-weekly basis
($10.7265/hour) - Grade 4, Step A - with an increase of one step
(approximately 2%) when the probationary period is successfully
completed. 

 

Probationary Period

The first 6 months in this position are considered probationary in
nature.  The successful applicant's performance will be reviewed at 6
months, and if their performance is satisfactory, the employee will
receive a rate increase of one step and their probationary status will
end.  If the employee's performance is not satisfactory, the employee
can be terminated or the probationary period may be extended for a
maximum of three more months, if, in the opinion of the Library, it
seems the employee needs more time to show they can perform at the
expected level.  If the employee's performance is still not satisfactory
at the end of this second probationary period, their employment with the
Library will be terminated.
