[OPLINLIST] Library Web sites

Hello All:

We are in the process of determining the best way to go about revamping
our Library's Web site. We have no official/dedicated "webmaster" but
have been using FrontPage 2002 to create and update our current site
when we get time away from other duties. In general, we are searching
for a way to modernize the look of our site, make it more usable, and
create a framework that will make it easier to update and to add content
- preferably an option that would allow multiple staff members (at all
levels) to assist in the site's maintenance (data entry Web work of
sorts). FrontPage's template options seem out of date, and only one
staff member is trained in its use.

A few questions then:

* Are there any recommendations regarding web-authoring
software? Along this line of thinking, does anyone know of worthwhile
training devoted to becoming proficient in the use of web-authoring
software?

* Is outsourcing a better option? Would it be more cost
effective, in the long run, to outsource the initial design of the site
to a professional and to have him/her set things up so that changes to
the site's design and content could be made in a simple, straightforward
manner?

* Finally, are there options online that would make the creation
of a library Web site relatively easy? I have played around on
www.blogger.com but felt like I was trying to make the pages something
that they were not (linking individual blogs to take the shape of a
library Web site).

Any assistance/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
