Fourth annual Spring Literary Arts Festival planned

 

The Herbert Wescoat Memorial Library and the Friends of the Herbert Wescoat Memorial Library will host the fourth annual Spring Literary Arts Festival (SLAF) April 18-20, 2008. The Festival will occur at the library and at the Vinton County Middle School in McArthur, Ohio.                                                                         

Entertaining Dreams is the theme of this year's SLAF, and it will feature a full program including a Pulitzer Prize winner, a performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream and a New York Times' bestselling author.

Library Director Clint Walker said that he and the library Board of Trustees are pleased with the programs offered this year.  

"There continues to be no reason why our community can't offer the same kinds of literary and artistic programs found in large cities and academic communities."  

"In regards to the festival, it has always been the library's goal," he added, "to bring writers and presenters of regional, national and international prominence to our community. The festival offers a diverse program that should appeal to the literary and artistic tastes of many."

The Library and the Friends of the Library held their inaugural event in April 2005, garnering praise from both participants and festival attendees for the program's diversity and quality. This year is also guaranteed to please as the SLAF will feature Pulitzer Prize recipient Timothy Egan as well as New York Times bestselling author Brad Meltzer.

The program also includes a musical performance by the ProMusica String Quartet of Columbus, Ohio, a storytelling session by bestselling children's writer and storyteller Rafe Martin, and a Native American dance and craft program. In addition, the weekend will feature a guided tour of Vinton County, community dinners and a reception honoring the winners of a writing contest sponsored by the Friends of the Library.        

A Spring Literary Arts Festival: Entertaining Dreams is sponsored by the Herbert Wescoat Memorial Library and the Friends of the Herbert Wescoat Memorial Library, Inc., in McArthur, Ohio. The festival opens on Friday, April 18, 2008 and the last event will commence at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 20, 2008.
