This hands-on workshop will cover a range of maintenance issues, including

Fundamentals of Cataloging: Classification-North Canton, OH

The Fundamentals of Cataloging series covers the basics of cataloging in
four sessions. In this session, we will cover the theories behind the
classification schemes (both Dewey Decimal and Library of Congress) used by
most academic and public libraries. Participants will learn how these
classifications are used for organization and access to materials.

Authority Records Workshop-Columbus, OH

This course will introduce technical services staff to the purpose and
structure of authority records. Participants will be exposed to the MARC21
Format for Authority Data, learn how authority records are created for
access points, and the interrelationship between authorized forms of
headings.

Developing a Special or Rare Books Collection-Columbus, OH

Please join Dr. Geoff Smith of the Ohio State University as he discusses the
development of a rare books/special collection library. Dr. Smith will
address various topics related to institutional collecting, including:
collection development theory as applied to special collections; models of
special collections; constituencies and audiences for special collections;
bibliographic resources; financial development and donor relations;
acquisition of rare materials (book dealers and auctions); operational
logistics of a special collections; security; and, promotion and publicity.
Dr. Smith will also talk about personal collecting and private libraries.

Integrating Odyssey with OCLC WorldCat Resource Sharing-Columbus, OH 

This hands-on workshop will focus on using Odyssey for document delivery
within OCLC WorldCat Resource Sharing. Topics will include Constant Data,
Custom Holdings, and ILL Policies, in addition to scanning and sending
articles using Odyssey.

Cataloging Music Materials: Sound Recordings, Scores, and more!-Columbus, OH

Guest instructor Jay Weitz will lead this instruction session which focuses
on specific cataloging problems, including such topics as field 007, chief
sources of information, statements of responsibility, the types of numbers
found on scores and sound recordings, edition and musical presentation
statements, dates, physical descriptions, titles, and when to input a new
record. A packet of examples will be provided. Come armed with your specific
questions, as that will spur class discussion.

Hands-on Book Repair-Columbus, OH

This workshop is designed for general, circulating collections in public and
small academic or special libraries. The approach will be to teach methods
for repairing books with less damaging techniques, as a building block
toward "archival quality" or "preservation oriented" collection maintenance.
Attendees will learn about the structure of a book, which books should be
sent to the bindery and which books can be repaired at the library.
