Cathy--

In 2008, four libraries in central Ohio joined together to create
an in-service co-op. Our idea was that one program could not
be relevant to all staff, so different libraries held programs with
different target audiences: for children's librarians and staff,
a program on early childhood literacy at one library; for managers,
a personnel attorney to talk about evaluation, documentation,
and dismissal; for cataloging staff, programs about workflow
analysis, faster turnaround, and pre-processing services. Staff
could also choose between a day-long readers advisory program
focusing on using Novelist, or a set of programs focusing on
various IT-related issues, like Web 2.0 tools or Microsoft Office.

It seemed very successful, and I believe we'll pursue doing it
again. An added attraction to doing this is the opportunity for
staff to visit and tour other libraries. Perhaps, now that MOLO
is gone, some libraries in your area might be interested in doing
something similar?
